rogerhumanbeing Goes It Alone Roger Peffley was the epitome of what the music scene in Mystic was supposed to be about. As a teenager, he encountered the existing scene and was inspired enough to learn the drums and begin writing and playing original music before he had even graduated from high school. Finding a niche musically with the Alexander Field, he became increasingly curious as to how far his inspiration could take him.
That desire led him to learn both guitar and bass, testing the waters by fronting his own ensemble, the Ambertones throughout the mid-nineties, and playing bass along-side scene stalwart Charley Eastman in the vital Mona Gritch, which then led him to relocate to NYC alongside Charley’s latest group onDasher. This move found Roger firmly ensconced in the NYC lifestyle, where he even worked at the same rehearsal studio that the reformed Portersville rented space at during their long NYC rehearsals from 1998 to 2000.
The confluence of all of these moments led Roger to become a one man band: rogerhumanbeing. Creating an intuitive and unorthodox approach to rock, RHB consisted of roger on a drum stool, with a bass drum and a side-turned snare drum activated by separate but equal drum pedals, providing him with the ability to crank out beats with both feet, while he held a six string in both hands, and sang dynamically to corral the sound he wanted to hear.
As his confidence and ability on this new set grew, he began adding in subtle but astounding additions, such as striking a hi-hat cymbal set with the tuning pegs of the guitar, playing percussive counter rhythms on the guitar body with both hands, and layering effect pedals with feet while still continuing the penetrating beats. In terms of a one man show, this is the apex. {sharethis}
